February Meeting

Bruce Herbitter on Randonneuring and 650B Conversions

Bruce is a well-known long-distance cyclist, long-time ride director of the Montgomery Bike Club, and newly-appointed RUSA RBA (Randonneurs USA, Regional Brevet Administrator).

Bruce will decode the language and demystify the sport of long-distance, self-supported cycling. He'll share the history of randonneuring in Europe, the US, and Alabama, including the revived Alabama Randonneurs. He’ll introduce the P-12 that some of us have already begun and maybe get more of us to join.

An advocate of lugged steel, Bruce has restored many a retired frame and converted it from a 700C to accommodate a 650B wheel. Aficionados like Jan Heine (Bicycle Quarterly) are also advocates of the 650B wheel. He’ll explain and demonstrate the differences and the advantages.

No slides but Bruce plans to bring wheels and randonneuring equipment including a control card and how to use it.

Enjoy desserts from Newk’s and coffee courtesy of Church of the Highlands.
