TRI CHEWACLA SPRINT TRIATHLON

Join Tri Auburn for the first annual Tri Chewacla Sprint
SUNDAY, JULY 12, 2015

Race Distances:

Swim: 500 yards
Bike: 12 miles
Run: 3.1 miles

USAT Sanctioning:

Tri Chewacla Sprint Triathlon is a USAT sanctioned event. This sanctioning process ensures that the event organizers have taken outlined steps to ensure a safe and fair race. It also allows USAT athletes the ability to compete in quality events and potentially become a nationally ranked athlete.

In accordance with USAT requirements, all competitors at all USAT sanctioned events must have a USAT license. You may purchase an annual license, which is $45 at their website. You may also purchase a one-day license for $12 when registering for the event. USAT members must present their current membership card at packet pick-up, or they will be required to purchase a one-day license at that time.

Wave Swim Start:

The Tri Chewacla Sprint Triahtlon swim will take place at Lake Chewacla inside the Chewacla State Park. This event will feature a wave start, which means that athletes will start in groups of 10-40 and swim a 500 yard course around the lake. Each athlete will have a timing chip on their ankle, so their individual time will not start until their wave begins.

Awards:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be presented to the winners of each age group.

Every racer will get an event t-shirt, a swim cap, and a packet filled with sponsor gifts and promotions. Every finisher will receive a finisher’s medal.

Crank Down in Tiger Town

Chewacla State Park is becoming one of the ‘must visit’ state parks in Alabama if you like hitting the trails on knobby tires. The course at this park will use a combination of tight and twisty single track and wide dirt roads to test the racers fitness and bike handling skills. The seemingly flat course is deceiving as the constant up/down results in a similar elevation gain to the season opener at Tannehill. In addition, these trails offer a lot more ‘texture’ with roots, rocks and tight turns that require good strong bike skills as well as a powerful set of legs. Spectators bring your noise makers, because as the trail meanders through the woods, there are several opportunities to see the race unfolding from your seats in the infield area.

Xterra Tiger

Located at Chewacla state park.  This park is a perfect venue for an off-road Triathlon as it has one of the area's best parks for a Tri, a fun and fast trail system and a quiet comfortable setting, the trails are built and maintained by C.A.M.P.  The 1/2 mile lake swim will start off the event as athletes will begin and swim out to a point in the lake marked with buoys and then back to the beach.  After exiting the water the racers will face a short run to the transition area to begin the mountain bike leg, which consists of a 10 mile loop.  The athletes will then transition again to the shorter 3.1 mile run course which will use parts of the mountain bike course plus some dirt road power line sections to finally finish the race.
