This month’s ride is at the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge.
This will be an evening ride. We will leave Auburn Jr. High School at 5:30 PM to get to the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge an hour later. The ride will be lead by Shawn, our Second Sunday Ride Naturalist.
We will be riding in the twilight and after sunset, so bring a good headlight mounted on your handlebars. Small flashlights in your pocket for emergencies, etc. are probably okay, too. (Laws prevent wearing headlamps (on your head) due to poaching problems.)
Plan to ride about two hours total. Sunset will be around 8:00 PM and the Refuge closes an hour later.
The ride is on gravel roads, so use a bike with wider tires (1.25 inch/32 mm or wider will be fine). We will not be on public roads, so no worries about traffic.
Date: Sunday, June 10.
Time: Leave Auburn Jr. High School at 5:30 PM, arriving near Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge an hour later.
Road Conditions: All gravel, level. Any bikes with tires 1.25 inches/32 mm wide will work. Meet at the Peddler Food Store/Gator Gas for rest rooms, etc.
Bring: Water. Insect repellent. Walkin' shoes. A good headlight on your handlebars. Binoculars. Camera. Long-sleeved shirts will repel insects and the occasional tall weed hanging over the trail.
Meet up at the Peddler Food Store/Gator Gas on Hwy. 431, just past Lake Eufaula. A half-mile past Mile Post 73. https://goo.gl/maps/1KkWCCuQAAM2.
