Stone Mountain Trail is a continuous, 19-mile stretch of car-free paths and on-street bike facilities connecting Midtown Atlanta to Stone Mountain Park. We will park cars at Your Dekalb Farmers Market, start riding the Trail near the mid-point, and ride about 10 miles east to Stone Mountain Park, ride five miles around the base of the mountain, and then back to the start. About 25 miles if you do the whole thing.
Date: Sunday, March 13, 2016
Time: Meet at 8:00 AM at Auburn High School to carpool to the start, or at Your Dekalb Farmers Market at 11:00 AM Georgia Time.
Road Conditions: All paved. The Stone Mountain Trail is mostly flat. The five miles around the mountain (optional) are less so.
Bring: Water. Snacks. Treasure for lunch and shopping. Your Dekalb Farmers Market accepts cash, checks, and debit cards, but does not accept credit cards.
Plan to have lunch at the Village Corner Restaurant/Bakery/Brewpub in Stone Mountain Village.
After the ride, you may want to:
- Ride the western half of the trail, riding to midtown Atlanta and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Fernbank Natural History Museum, Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, etc.
- Shop at Your Dekalb Farmers Market. (You did bring a cooler, didn't you?) They take cash, checks and debit cards, but not credit cards.
- Beer-tasting at Wild Heaven Craft Beers near the Market.
- Hey, you're in Atlanta! Have fun!
